Goals of movement
-the red guards' responsibilities
"Harden our hearts, fear not sacrifices, overcome ten thousand obstacles, to achieve the ultimate victory!" -Shen, Gang of One
- To destroy all class enemies who threatened the creation of a proletarian Society.
- “Po si jiu” or breaking the four olds: old ideas, old customs, old culture, and old habits. Mao believed the four olds to be all bad philosophies from the olden days that were not meant to be followed by the modern generations. These olds should be destroyed in order to establish a “new world” (Hay, The Chinese Cultural Revolution).
- To eliminate those who went against Mao.
